The federal government has determined that the wildfires in southern California have resulted in a public health emergency. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) subsequently announced that it will provide waivers and flexibilities to healthcare providers and hospitals in California that have been affected by the wildfires and may need support to maintain operations.
Providers are asked to submit their requests for specific flexibilities on CMS’s 1135 Waiver/Flexibility Request and Inquiry Form. Information on the types of flexibilities and waivers that CMS is permitted to grant through the 1135 waiver is summarized in this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document. The FAQ outlines, among other provisions, waivers regarding physician services and licensure in a public health emergency.
ASNC will continue to monitor for additional resources and assistance available for providers affected by the wildfires. Stay tuned for updates.
